The Importance of Detoxing

The Importance of Detoxing

Terry Willard

Out with the old and in with the new. Detoxing is one of the central concepts of natural healing. Why? Building healthy new tissue requires eliminating old cells and their by-products.

This has never been truer than in our modern society. Synthetic chemicals, hormones and toxic material in our food, air, cosmetics and clothing are regularly flooding our bodies. Even a person with a healthy diet comes into contact with all sorts of these undesirable toxins.

Our ancestors felt it was important to cleanse at least twice each year and they had an organic diet by default. Even though you can do a detox anytime, one of the best times to go on cleansing detox is with the change of the spring and fall seasons. This mirrors the organic processes happening in nature.

Detoxing in the spring or fall mirrors the changes happening in nature.

Reasons for detoxing

A detox is also a good way to start a new healthy routine, increasing the potential outcome of the program. Many people like to cleanse at the beginning of a weight loss program or around the festive season. This way, they don’t feel as guilty for overconsuming.

A detox doesn’t have to be a time of deprivation. It can be a time of good nourishing food and a time of centering focus.

It is also helpful to get your nutrition back on track, if you have slipped up a little by overconsumption. During a detox, people often report that they feel lighter, less bloated, and have more energy.

We suggest that a twelve-day cleansing diet, supported by botanicals, is a good ‘tune-up’ for the body. This will also help people get the most benefit from all the other supplements in their health programs.

Detoxing vs Fasting

One of the most important rules of natural healing is ‘cleanse a little, build a little’. This cycle, which we incorporate into the Wild Rose programs, copies nature's seasonal changes.

We strongly suggest the use of a herbal detox over a fast. If you cleanse too hard, as during a fast, you often end up with a “healing crisis” as a side effect. This term, dating from the early days of botanical medicine, refers to an acute condition associated with therapeutic treatment. Symptoms can range from headaches, nausea and fever to rashes.

This is why fasting is not always the best choice when looking for a cleansing method. Fasting can lead to strong emotional and physical changes. It should only be done with guidance from a qualified health professional.

However, you can often avoid healing crises. A treatment plan involving slower cleansing, and a healthy meal plan can usually prevent the crisis. Pairing a cleanse with a healthy diet helps feed our microbiomes with what it needs to stay healthy, such as roughage. This also gives us the advantage of trying new diet guides that hopefully we can add into our everyday eating.

Why is detoxing so important?

During the daily process of maintenance our bodies are regularly building new cells and breaking down old ones. Our bodies recycle most of this broken-down material. However, little by little, waste products build up in the system. A detox program can support more optimal elimination of material that our bodies do not easily recycle or remove.

It is estimated that our collective daily consumption of dietary additives is 15 to 20 kilograms per year! Since these additives are new to our diet, our bodies do not process them well. Therefore, there is an unprecedented need to cleanse the body at least twice a year.

Our collective daily consumption of dietary additives is 15 to 20 kilograms per year, making detoxing crucial.

Most of this unwanted material is deposited in our digestive tract, colon, liver, lymphatic system, and kidneys. Many health problems are attributed to these toxic buildups. Understandably, our system may feel taxed as it works at breaking down and eliminating this build up of metabolic and environmental waste.

A time-tested solution for detoxing is to ease the body through, with the assistance of herbal preparations. Supportive herbal formulas can make the process quicker, more thorough and easier. This traditional solution also enables one to eat a healthy and hearty diet while cleansing.

Why the Wild Rose Herbal D-tox program?

The Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox program is simple to use and both young and old garner excellent benefits. With the maintenance of a hearty diet, this program can be enjoyed by both novice and experienced cleansers.

The experienced cleanser will notice dramatic health benefits, without the emotional and physical fluctuations so often associated with fasting. The Meal Plan booklet included in the D-Tox kit combines 20% acidic forming foods and 80% neutral and alkaline forming foods. The easy-to-follow chart lists all foods that you may or may not eat while on the program.

Many people lose weight during the 12-day cleansing period. If they keep following the Wild Rose Meal Plan, they often keep losing weight.

Along with detoxing, make sure to follow a healthy diet such as the Wild Rose meal plan for best results.

The Wild Rose Meal Plan is a time-tested meal program that does not have to be mundane. In fact, a large percentage of the world’s population eats these types of foods every day. Most of the foods listed on the Meal Plan are low fat, high fibre foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

You are encouraged to take this opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and flavors; try a cookbook that introduces you to unfamiliar spices and herbs. This will give you the chance to elevate your meals to something delicious… even gourmet!
